We’re very excited to share that the The Footstool Workshop is becoming The Ottoman Workshop.  This better reflects how our customers, interior designers and the prestigious fabric houses that we work alongside already talk about the beautiful, bespoke and hand crafted pieces that we create.

As our products, relationships and reputation amongst our industry has evolved, so has the language used to describe us.  In the world of high end upholstery, a ‘footstool’ is rarely called a footstool anymore.  We’re embracing ‘The Ottoman Workshop’ because it felt natural for our name to follow suit.  Above all, this name change better reflects what you, our customers, are searching for.

Whilst our name is changing, everything else remains the same; Same team, same experience, same high quality.

So what’s in a name?

We’ve been trading as The Footstool Workshop since we started in the early 2000’s. Then, the fashion was to call low, upholstered surfaces, footstools. These were generally small and specifically used to put your feet on. The widely accepted point of difference was that a footstool did not have storage and an ottoman did.

Fast forward a few years and the term ottoman has been loosely adopted as any large, low, padded, upholstered coffee table in a stunning designer fabric as the way we use our homes has been influenced by interior trends.

It makes sense then, as a brand with its finger on the pulse of the latest home fashions, that we move with the times and acknowledge that the distinction between a footstool and an ottoman is now primarily only a matter of design. We’re pleased to provide bespoke ottomans (with or without storage) in your fabric or ours to almost any dimensions you require. A wide range of finishes, legs and trims can be added to fully customise your ottoman making it a truly unique piece of furniture.

It’s also important to us that our customers feel they can use whichever terminology they prefer. For that reason you’ll find both terms scattered throughout our website so that we can best help customers find what they are looking for – We’re here to help all customers order their bespoke footstool/ottoman, no matter what you call it in your home.
